The designation Castelli Romani refers to a set of towns or villages in the Alban Hills located a short distance from RomeCastelli Romani. They are one of the most popular tourist areas in the province of Rome.
The famous Ville Tuscolane that rise in the towns of Frascati, Grottaferrata and Monte Porzio Catone, and the pontifical villa at Castel Gandolfo, are the best known and most glaring evidence of the predilection that popes and wealthy Roman nobles had for the castellan climate. Modern tourism, rather than on the goodness of the air, is oriented toward the beauty of the places and the entertainment on offer: in Ariccia, for example, the fraschette, which have become a symbol of the town and a source of national notoriety, are a great success.
